Deep Thoughts by Sarah Handy #5

1. Soccer Ends:
Brian and I are so tired from our soccer game today. It was our last game of the season. :(
We won 2-1. Brian did awesome...scored 1 and assisted in the other goal. Woohoo! I pulled muscles in my thigh and calf and Brian hurt his knee so we are hobbling around like old people. Oh, well, our spring season doesn't begin until March so we will start spending most of our weekends in Burney again. It will be nice to get back up there.

(Tim hanging with Brian after the soccer game.)

2. Tooth!
Tim has a tooth coming in! There has been a lot of drool lately and Tim has been putting everything in his mouth. On Friday night (4 months, 12 days old), Brian saw the first glimpse of Tim's little baby tooth. So awesome! We were talking about it though and decided that it doesn't do much good to only have one tooth. Rob told me that it doesn't make much difference when they get the matching tooth on top either. haha.

(Drool!)
It was hard to take a picture of it because you can't see much of the tooth yet. I'll post more pics as we can see it more.

3. Half-Marathon:
So we've decided to train for a half marathon coming up on April 13th. It's in Pescadero, just south of Half Moon Bay, and you get a t-shirt and large artichoke when you run the race. So silly. I think this will be good to motivate me in getting back into shape. We'll see... :) I went running at Lake Chabot the other day and it felt awesome! I miss my old body...

4. Stewie:
When we first had Tim, Brian and I said he reminded us of Stewie from The Family Guy. Well, I just started really watching The Family Guy (very funny show) and realized that Stewie detests his Mom and is always trying to kill her. Now I am hoping that Tim is not like Stewie. haha.

5. Like the brothers:
I have always loved the way our brothers were when we woke them up in the morning. They would always be so nice like it was no big deal that you were waking them from their dreams. Tim seems to be the same way. On the weekends, I feed Tim his first bottle of the morning. (During the week, I start work at 5:30am so I am gone before Tim wakes up.) Each morning I go into his room to bring him his bottle and he has big, bright eyes and a huge grin. Such a cutie. I love that time with him.

6. Christmas Craziness:

I am so glad that we aren't into buying gifts and participating in the general craziness that goes along with the holidays. I see the ads telling us that we only have 2 more days to shop so packages will arrive on time and I hear people talking about the stress with cleaning their homes and planning for guests. I'm glad that our little family is going to Burney to sit in front of the fire, ride the quads in the snow and take it easy. I hope we can keep things simple as Tim gets older.

7. Family Reunion:
Our family is getting together in Texas for a family gathering this year. We decided not to go because of Tim's diagnosis and the need to avoid infection. I'm already missing everyone and wishing that we could hang out together all the time. Too bad I can't win the lottery and buy a place where we can all meet once a month. I love my family a lot.

8. Still flipping the finger after all these months:

9. Favorite new toy:
Tim just started using his "megasaucer" that our friends, the Wilmotts, gave him. It has a little seat that he sits/stands in surronded with toys that he can play with. The seat can spin around so he can turn to play with a new toy when he gets tired of the old one. This thing is awesome! He is using his hands and feet so much more now. Who needs the physical therapist? haha.

10. First haircut:
To avoid the Donald Trump look, Brian & I gave Tim his 1st haircut at 4 months.

Deep Thoughts by Sarah Handy#4

1. Back to Work -
I made it through my first week back at work. Whew! It's fun seeing all of my friends there. I miss Tim & Brian a lot during the day but it feels good to use my brain again. The only problem is that I've used my brain so much that I can't think of anything funny for this post. Oh well, I'll just add lots of pictures. :) Work is super busy -- sometimes I wonder even how I did my job before I had Tim. I think I can do it though.

2. Poison Oak -
Okay, that "leaves of three, let it be" saying doesn't work for the time of year when the plant has no leaves. Brian got poison oak during our walk at Lake Chabot. We think it came from a stick he used to poke at a fish in the water. It was by far the worst case I remember him having. He had it all over his body, it lasted for 2 weeks and he missed a couple days of work. I am SO glad I don't get it. I don't know how he made it through. See pictures below. If you feel bad for him, you can send him money in the mail. I'm sure that will make him feel better.

3. Snowsuit from Rob & Angie -
Speaking of mail, we received a package yesterday for Tim (ALWAYS fun getting packages in the mail). It's this super cute snowsuit. Can't wait to go to Burney again. Angie, you are so awesome! I don't know how you make the time to do all that you do. Thanks!

4. The flip-offs continue -
More evidence of baby Tim giving the finger to everyone.

5. Back in action -
I scored a goal at our last soccer game. I'm back on my streak. Woohoo! We only have 3 more games this season so I'm pretty bummed. At least our next season starts up in the spring.
Brian going up for a header.

6. Big boy -
Tim has grown up so fast. Not only is he big physically, but he has also matured so much. It's pretty amazing to watch the changes. He usually goes to sleep around 8pm and wakes up around 6:30am. (I couldn't imagine having to go back to the days of waking up a couple times each night to feed him.) Tim's 97th+ percentile in everything. 18 1/2 lbs now. I love his chubby legs. His hair has grown a lot too!

(Notice the drool on his drool sessions shirt...haha)

7. Cats:
This is all I have to say....

I was just thinking how funny it would be if this guy accidentally ran over his neighbor's cat. What would he say? "I didn't mean to." yeah, right....hahaha

Thanks for checking in. I'll try to post each weekend. No time during the week any more. :(

Minty Holidays

Start the fattening holidays off right with this recipe:
Mint Meltaway Brownies

1. Bake a recipe of store bought packaged brownies in a 9x13 pan 2 minutes less than the packaged instructions.
Cool completely - preferably overnight.

2. Mint frosting:
6 T. butter melted
4 T. evaporated milk
2 c. powdered sugar
1 1/2 t. pure peppermint extract
dash green food coloring

Mix frosting and spread over cold brownies.
Place in freezer at least 2 hours

3. Chocolate topping:
6 oz. semi-sweet chocolate chips
4 T. butter
Melt butter in microwave. Stir in chocolate chips. If not totally melted, microwave for 10-20 seconds more. Don't overcook. Restir. Spread over mint layer and put in freezer for ~ 10 mins.
Keep uneaten brownies in freezer.

Deep Thoughts by Sarah Handy #3

1. Lost Dog:
For the first time in all of his 9 years, I lost Kai while running Ten Hills trail. I decided that I would run the entire loop without stopping (while pushing Tim in the jogging stroller -- not an easy feat). Well, it ended up that the run wasn't too bad and I made it! At the end of the run, I bumped into Mr. Brewer and Raul, the CV High running coaches. We chatted for a few minutes, (more on that under the next item) but when they left, Kai was nowhere to be found.
Normally, Kai is the perfect running partner. I like to run at 10 Hills because he can go off leash and he knows the trails there better than I. He must not have realized that I stopped & since the normally quiet trail was crowded with highschool runners, I'm guessing he continued on for a second time around.
After calling for him without a response, I ran both sides of the trail but still couldn't find him. By that time, it was dark, I had Timmy waking up in his stroller and I had left my cell phone at home. I decided to go home so I could let Brian know where I was and to have him help me look for Kai. Luckily, when I got home, my cell phone had a message from a girl who had found Kai on Redwood Road near the golf course. Thank goodness. Poor Kai Lua. I'm glad he was okay.

2. Black Sheep:
So I ran into Mr. Brewer first and talked to him for a minute or two before Raul showed up. When Raul came by, Brewer asked him if he remembered me and he said, "Yeah. You're the blacksheep." I asked him what he was talking about and he said, "You were the one who stayed out with your boyfriend and your parents called us to find you." Great. That's Raul's memory of me. I did make it clear to him that was the only bad thing I ever did... haha. I'm still laughing that Raul called me Blacksheep. hahaha..jerk.

3. Ticks:
Dude. I have found the fattest ticks on Kai lately. They are so big that their legs poke off of him like little toothpicks off of a gumdrop. Sick! Poor Kai. Maybe I need to stop running at the trails for a while.

4. Tim is awesome:
Tim has grown up so fast. He is sleeping so well. He falls asleep around 7:30pm and wakes up around 6:00am. Nice. So different from when we brought him home 2 1/2 months ago and had to feed him every three hours. I sure don't miss those days! He's eating like crazy and has already graduated to size 3 diapers. (I won't tell you what happens when we try to squeeze him into the size 2's.)

5. Baby Flip-off:
Is it just my baby that flips everyone off all the time?

6. Window Smashing:
It seems that every two years or so, we have a window smashed on one of our cars. The first one bugged me but now I think, yep, it really was time for it to happen again. This time it was the Xterra window. Usually someone drives up Stanton beaming a bunch of cars along the way with B.B.'s, bricks, rocks, etc. Our neighbors car was hit while she was driving! As Brian would say...Punk teens -- cancel prom. (And Raul called ME a blacksheep, hrmph!)

7. ATVing:
We bought a couple of used ATVs and took them out for a spin with Tim the other weekend in Burney. You all need to come up to Burney now for the fun. We have 2 dirtbikes and 2 ATVs to ride out in the forest behind the house. We should be able to take the ATVs out in the snow to pull people on sleds because they are 4-wheel drive. Whee!

8. Tim says:
Thanks for my cute clothes Uncle Joe & Auntie Steph!

Haha..this Blue Steel picture makes me laugh.

Deep Thoughts by Sarah Handy #2

1. Scoring:
I had three consecutive weeks of scoring goals in my soccer games although I didn't score any goals in yesterday's game. Dang. :(
I love playing on my soccer team so much. It's something that I look forward to all week long. I'm still quite chubby from my pregnancy but I when I'm on the field, I feel awesome again.

2. Big Tim:
Tim is growing up so much. He's 3 months and 3 days old and he weighs 16 lbs, 10 oz now. I was looking at pictures the other day and was shocked at how much he has changed already. He's a fun little/big guy.

3. Visits!
Mom and Dad were here last week for 3 days. We had a blast hanging out. Mom, Tim and I went shopping in downtown Half Moon Bay while Dad worked from my home. On Halloween, Mom, Tim and I walked 10 Hills Trail, shopped a little more (finding cute hats, mittens & slippers for Tim), worked on our costumes, then went to Jazzercise. I was Richard Simmons, Mom was Steve Young and Tim was a lobster. We visited Bill and Roberta for a little bit until Tim got way too tired. They gave Tim a "Trick or Treat" present -- a cute 49ers outfit. Bill explained that the 49ers outfit was a trick this year (because the niners have only won 2 games) but hopefully it will be a treat next year when they win a lot more.

4. Pizza:
A few weeks ago, we ordered a pizza from Round Table. Brian went to pick up the pizza but realized that he had forgotten his coupon. The man at the pizza shop would not give him the coupon price without the coupon so Brian told him he could keep the pizza. The next day, the manager called and left me a message asking why we didn't pick up our pizza. I called him back and told him what had happened. He ended up giving us a free pizza! Yay! We picked up our free pizza last night and it was SO good (Primo Supremo) although I had a feeling there might have been spit or cleaner or some other funky thing added to it. haha.

5.Ugly Babies vs. Cute Babies:
I think it is true that when you have a kid, you think your kid is super cute. I believe this because I think Tim is so adorable but most other babies I see are pretty funky. Well, Lara's Max is really super cute but that's about it.

Cute baby examples:

6. Pregame Warmup:
I don't know why but before every soccer game, I have to go number 2 at least twice. It's literally like I've taken a super acting laxative. It's been this way for me for about 7 years now. Weird.

7. Flubber:
The left over flab and blubber from pregancy is disgusting. I'm sick of being flubbery. My goal is to be back to my normal self by Tim's first birthday - Aug 2, 2008. I can't wait!
I guess my pre-soccer ritual will help me drop that weight. haha.

Okay...
That's it for this post. Tim is waking up and it's way too hard to type with one hand. Try it sometime...it's so annoying because it takes way too long. :)
