I figured you would post a bloody condom (EWWWW!), so I'm thinking it's not that. I think it is something plastic that Kai chewed up and then threw up and it was all bloody. Could be Ebola virus.
I happen to know that this is a sea shell of sorts (oyster???) laying on partially burned wood, and red something...dunno. Or maybe it was blood from the oyster. I say it's ocean related at the least.
I know. It was a plastic cup you put hot grease into and when you realized the cup was melting you dropped it and you're glad you were wearing shoes because it splattered hot grease everywhere.
P.S. All my other guesses would have worked with you being glad you were wearing shoes.
