Santa Cruz Boardwalk

Last Saturday, the weather was great so we played a game of pick up soccer with our friends then Brian, Tim and I went over to Santa Cruz for a quick trip. We checked out Cowells (surf spot) and the waves were awesome! I was pretty bummed that we didn't have our boards or a babysitter with us. Next time. We walked over to the Boardwalk to check things out. It was fun looking at all of the games/rides. I didn't remember the Boardwalk having so many rides...I think they must have fixed it up since I last went. It was fun. Tim was a good little guy. He wore his surfer shorts and rash guard most of the day. He got to put his feet in the sand and surf. I was surprised that he didn't mind the cold Santa Cruz water. Maybe he'll get to surf next year. :)
I've got to get to bed but I wanted to do a quick post. Hopefully I'll do better at staying up on my posts next time.

Pictures of Tim

Tim's 5 1/2 months old now. Such a cutie. His top teeth are just about to poke through now.

Sorry, I don't really have any pictures of me. I'll work on it.

Where's Waldo ('s boobs)?

Henry's comment about Tim's flipping off pictures made me laugh so hard. I guess it's because I'm typically always holding Tim when I notice that he is flipping me off but in about half of the flip off pictures you can find cleavage in the background. Henry said it's like Where's Waldo. Hahahahahaha... sick. I guess when you have a wife with ginormous boobs, you have to notice the cleavage (Henry). haha.

Cheese party

While most of the family was at the family reunion in Texas, Joe & Steph had us come down to Morro Bay for a mini family reunion of our own. Tim attended the first party of his life. It was a cheese party. Joe's new love in life is fancy cheeses. For his 27th birthday, his cats, Duke & Tate, bought him 4 types of cheese and some fancy crackers. We taste tested goat cheese, cow/sheep cheese, gorgonzola, extra sharp chedder and another one. They were all really good except for the nasty gorgonzola blue cheese...puke. After we each tried all of the cheeses, we did a blind test to see if we could ID the cheeses. I did horribly, Brian got all but one and Joe got them all right. We all said that we didn't want to try the Gorgonzola in our blind testing b/c it was so sick. I tried to rub some of the gorgonzola on a piece of the goat cheese but 1) I couldn't get Brian to trick Joe with it & 2) I couldn't stop laughing when I did it. Boy, that Gorg-y cheese was sick.
It was so fun hanging with JoeSteph. We went down to the beach & flew Joe's kites, shopped a little on the main street, ate a waffles & strawberry breakfast for Joe's late b-day & played in a pickup soccer game. That soccer game was super fun. We all played really well. It was fun to see Joe play. He's always so good at all sports. He can run so fast and he's just naturally athletic. We also watched Joe's BBC Planet Earth DVD. Cool & crazy stuff.
On Sunday morning, I woke up before everyone so I took Tim on a long walk down to the piers near Joe's work. It was fun. A lot of people were out walking so early on Sunday morning. I really love Morro Bay. The people are so friendly there.
Well anyway, I don't have any pictures this time. It's not that Tim got ugly or anything, I just have been lazy with taking pics lately. haha. More next time. I'll describe him at least. He's just under 21 lbs now, just graduated to size 4 diapers, starting to fill in his little hairs a little more but not all the way there, somewhere between 27 & 28 inches tall & using his hands a lot more. He's so funny when we are eating food. He really wants to eat our food. If I hold him while I'm eating, he grabs my plate and pulls it to him.
Speaking of food, I've ordered some vegan cookbooks and I'm going to try cooking some meals. The recipes I saw seem really good and not too hard.
Back to Tim, he's so cute and bubbly right now. I love holding & playing with him. He smiles and laughs all the time. He loves to be held and played with. He looks around all over the place when we are outside. He loves looking at Dada Brian and Auntie Steph. He doesn't like to have his back massaged or scratched. He has two little teeth on the bottom and I think I can feel a tooth coming in on top now. He definitely has the Patterson drool going on. He likes to be rocked and patted on the back to fall asleep. He drinks approx 1200 mLs (~40 oz.) of formula per day. No solids for this huge guy until he's 6 months. One more month to go. One more month until I am 32. Agggh!
Happy New Year!

Deep Thoughts by Sarah Handy #5

1. Soccer Ends:
Brian and I are so tired from our soccer game today. It was our last game of the season. :(
We won 2-1. Brian did awesome...scored 1 and assisted in the other goal. Woohoo! I pulled muscles in my thigh and calf and Brian hurt his knee so we are hobbling around like old people. Oh, well, our spring season doesn't begin until March so we will start spending most of our weekends in Burney again. It will be nice to get back up there.

(Tim hanging with Brian after the soccer game.)

2. Tooth!
Tim has a tooth coming in! There has been a lot of drool lately and Tim has been putting everything in his mouth. On Friday night (4 months, 12 days old), Brian saw the first glimpse of Tim's little baby tooth. So awesome! We were talking about it though and decided that it doesn't do much good to only have one tooth. Rob told me that it doesn't make much difference when they get the matching tooth on top either. haha.

(Drool!)
It was hard to take a picture of it because you can't see much of the tooth yet. I'll post more pics as we can see it more.

3. Half-Marathon:
So we've decided to train for a half marathon coming up on April 13th. It's in Pescadero, just south of Half Moon Bay, and you get a t-shirt and large artichoke when you run the race. So silly. I think this will be good to motivate me in getting back into shape. We'll see... :) I went running at Lake Chabot the other day and it felt awesome! I miss my old body...

4. Stewie:
When we first had Tim, Brian and I said he reminded us of Stewie from The Family Guy. Well, I just started really watching The Family Guy (very funny show) and realized that Stewie detests his Mom and is always trying to kill her. Now I am hoping that Tim is not like Stewie. haha.

5. Like the brothers:
I have always loved the way our brothers were when we woke them up in the morning. They would always be so nice like it was no big deal that you were waking them from their dreams. Tim seems to be the same way. On the weekends, I feed Tim his first bottle of the morning. (During the week, I start work at 5:30am so I am gone before Tim wakes up.) Each morning I go into his room to bring him his bottle and he has big, bright eyes and a huge grin. Such a cutie. I love that time with him.

6. Christmas Craziness:

I am so glad that we aren't into buying gifts and participating in the general craziness that goes along with the holidays. I see the ads telling us that we only have 2 more days to shop so packages will arrive on time and I hear people talking about the stress with cleaning their homes and planning for guests. I'm glad that our little family is going to Burney to sit in front of the fire, ride the quads in the snow and take it easy. I hope we can keep things simple as Tim gets older.

7. Family Reunion:
Our family is getting together in Texas for a family gathering this year. We decided not to go because of Tim's diagnosis and the need to avoid infection. I'm already missing everyone and wishing that we could hang out together all the time. Too bad I can't win the lottery and buy a place where we can all meet once a month. I love my family a lot.

8. Still flipping the finger after all these months:

9. Favorite new toy:
Tim just started using his "megasaucer" that our friends, the Wilmotts, gave him. It has a little seat that he sits/stands in surronded with toys that he can play with. The seat can spin around so he can turn to play with a new toy when he gets tired of the old one. This thing is awesome! He is using his hands and feet so much more now. Who needs the physical therapist? haha.

10. First haircut:
To avoid the Donald Trump look, Brian & I gave Tim his 1st haircut at 4 months.

11. Cute Tim pictures:

Deep Thoughts by Sarah Handy#4

1. Back to Work -
I made it through my first week back at work. Whew! It's fun seeing all of my friends there. I miss Tim & Brian a lot during the day but it feels good to use my brain again. The only problem is that I've used my brain so much that I can't think of anything funny for this post. Oh well, I'll just add lots of pictures. :) Work is super busy -- sometimes I wonder even how I did my job before I had Tim. I think I can do it though.

2. Poison Oak -
Okay, that "leaves of three, let it be" saying doesn't work for the time of year when the plant has no leaves. Brian got poison oak during our walk at Lake Chabot. We think it came from a stick he used to poke at a fish in the water. It was by far the worst case I remember him having. He had it all over his body, it lasted for 2 weeks and he missed a couple days of work. I am SO glad I don't get it. I don't know how he made it through. See pictures below. If you feel bad for him, you can send him money in the mail. I'm sure that will make him feel better.

3. Snowsuit from Rob & Angie -
Speaking of mail, we received a package yesterday for Tim (ALWAYS fun getting packages in the mail). It's this super cute snowsuit. Can't wait to go to Burney again. Angie, you are so awesome! I don't know how you make the time to do all that you do. Thanks!

4. The flip-offs continue -
More evidence of baby Tim giving the finger to everyone.

5. Back in action -
I scored a goal at our last soccer game. I'm back on my streak. Woohoo! We only have 3 more games this season so I'm pretty bummed. At least our next season starts up in the spring.
Brian going up for a header.

6. Big boy -
Tim has grown up so fast. Not only is he big physically, but he has also matured so much. It's pretty amazing to watch the changes. He usually goes to sleep around 8pm and wakes up around 6:30am. (I couldn't imagine having to go back to the days of waking up a couple times each night to feed him.) Tim's 97th+ percentile in everything. 18 1/2 lbs now. I love his chubby legs. His hair has grown a lot too!

(Notice the drool on his drool sessions shirt...haha)

7. Cats:
This is all I have to say....

I was just thinking how funny it would be if this guy accidentally ran over his neighbor's cat. What would he say? "I didn't mean to." yeah, right....hahaha

Thanks for checking in. I'll try to post each weekend. No time during the week any more. :(
